Across the European Union, Yorùbá families have built communities in Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, France and beyond, many of them young and growing fast.
History
Yorùbá students and professionals have studied and worked in continental Europe since the colonial era. Larger communities grew from the 1980s onwards, as Nigerians, many of them Yorùbá, settled in Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. Since the United Kingdom left the EU in 2020, TYF lists its EU communities separately from the UK.
Community Life
Churches, mosques, cultural associations and students’ unions bring Yorùbá families together across the EU for naming ceremonies, festivals, language classes and mutual support, often working closely with TYF United Kingdom.
